Lavernock Battery

Things to do on a freezing cold February evening?? Take a dog walk to Lavernock Battery! Unfortunately with light fading fast we couldn't stay there to long, as we had to make our way back home, but I will return in the future to explored the site a bit more! If you haven’t been there for a look around it’s definitely worth a trip!

Lavernock Battery was built on the recommendations of the 1860 Royal Commission during the late 1860s to protect the ports of the River Severn, prompted by concerns about the strength of the French Navy

By the time the Second World War had started the battery had been upgraded with four modern heavy anti-aircraft guns.

The remaining main section of the gun battery has been listed as an Ancient Monument, which includes the gun emplacements, observation position, crew and officers quarters. The structure is still commemorated through Lavernock Point's main access road being named 'Fort Road'.'…
