The Woodfin's lockdown.
Lock down for us as a family at first was very strange. I needed to sheild due to my medical needs and the change of routine for our household was massive and Jon still working 12 hour shifts hasn’t been easy. Our eldest son Henno is austistc, we try and keep a routine and planner of what everyones doing to keep the unkown to a minium in an attempt to avoid meltdowns if we can. He has adapted very well to lockdown but has missed his social clubs massivley. We have hit a few bumps along the way with online learning and not being able to travel very far, we love exploring but overall we have settleted in well to lockdown life, the children have loved being home. Saxxon our youngest is very busy he plays football, rugby, competes in kickboxing and for him he needed to be out everyday, his energy is unreal. Patch our dog loves a walk its been great playing more games with him up the local green, he has new found love for basketball. Orinda our youngest daughter loves gymnastics so lockdown brought a change to online challenges and her own garden gym sessions. Our eldest daughter Lyana loves hockey, school as well as competing in kickboxing for her lockdown has brought zoom sessions and lots of online learning but she has rocked it. We have also helped with the PTFA bagging up 230plus bags of goodies for the summer break, the children love to help out whenever they can. The support we have had as a family from the Vale heros, Young Carers, Ysgol Gwaun y Nant and Bro Morgannwg has been incredible.
We are Scouting family and i think throughtout lockdown we have missed this the most, the camps, social events, fundraising and making a difference with our group. We run our beaver group through zoom, and we joined an online beaver camp with 100s of beavers from around the UK, so even though we are usually busy 7 days a week ..we were busy but in a different way. We met new neighbours in Lockdown with garden celebrations that we usually wouldnt have done as we are always so busy. We got to spend quality family time together which is amazing. The children playing games, using their imagination and hearing them laugh everyday was pure bliss. They all get on really well. We have camped in the garden for a week, built dens, baked anything we could, we also borrowed a pool from my mum as we couldnt go there to use it...Garden time has been brilliant.
We have missed our parents, family and friends, but reconnected with old friends also over zoom that we usually wouldnt have done with work and club commitments. We wont get this time back and the children are growing so fast, the reason for lockdown hasnt been nice but it been lovely to take the positives, pause and enjoy being The Woodfins.
